If you haven’t caught yourself singing or humming Pharrell Williams’ uplifting and infectious song ‘Happy’ yet I’m going to have to ask you to check your pulse to make sure you’re all the way human.
The song immediately brings a smile to my face whenever I hear it but when I stumbled upon this clip from the US talk-show host Ellen’s show it took the song to a whole new level for me.
The backstory to this is that a video of the Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences choir singing Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ was posted on-line a few weeks back which went viral, it eventually caught Ellen’s attention and she (doing what she does best) set up this great experience for the kids most of whom are poor, underprivileged and living at or on the poverty line in Detriot.
You’ve got to love Ellen (and Pharrell) for this one 🙂
Was it just me or did it look like Pharrell was getting a bit choked up watching the kids perform?
Hope you enjoyed this as much as I did.
P.s. wasn’t the kids reaction when the camera crew came in and then when they saw Pharrell in the studio with Ellen absolutely priceless?? *huge smile*
I have to thank @Bimadew for this one; there I was this morning minding my business, in the Twittersphere, just chilling, browsing, seeing what my timeline had for me when she tweeted this little gem into it:
And all at once I fell in love. The words, the music, the video, the way the singer’s love interest looks at her from 1:57 – 2:00 (yes it’s that deep) I love it all….
*sings* “If it wasn’t for you I’d be on my own” *lovehearts*
You all can thank me later.
Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love you tomorrow… – Quvenzhané Wallis, Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz star in remake of classic musical ‘Annie’April 7, 2014
Who didn’t love the film Annie?
Adapted from a Broadway musical, the original film was definitely a Christmas viewing staple in my house when I was growing up and that looks set to happen again with this remake.
Produced by JayZ and Will Smith, starring the exceptionally talented Jamie Foxx and of course Quvenzhané Wallis (you know the one that was nominated for an Oscar aged just 9 years old!!), check out the trailer below:
Side note: Can you believe Quvenzhané Wallis is still only 10?
What do you think? Didn’t you just love the original? Isn’t Jamie Foxx a fine speci…*coughs* I digress… Your thoughts (on the film or even Jamie) below please 😉
Does this picture alone not make you want to praise the Lord in your Sunday best?
In the latest ‘Black women winning’ news, the beautiful Academy Award winning Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o was announced last week as the latest Ambassadress for the French cosmetic house Lancôme. Yep, like I said, winning!!
Lupita is the brand’s first black brand ambassador and I am all the way here for it! The ads featuring Lupita are set to launch in the summer and will no doubt show a whole new audience what this bougie chick already knew – namely that black most certainly IS beau-ti-ful 🙂
The fact that I get the feeling that Continue reading
I love to see women doing their thing and leading from the front! After the furore over the loss of London’s main black music radio Choice FM I’m glad to see that aside from the inevitable complaints and loud sighs someone has gone out there and done something to fill the gap Choice FM left behind. Well done Jennifer;
Sidenote: Me and Jennifer are from the same stables so I’m giving extra love for this!!
So apparently this press release was an “April fools” prank *blank stare*
Can anyone enlighten me as to the point of this particular prank? I thought April Fools Day jokes were supposed to be funny or humorous?? If anyone can tell me the point of this particular one I’d love to hear about it….until then *Kanye shrug*
Founder and CEO of BANG Radio, Jennifer Ogole, officially launches Riddim Radio on 103.6 FM across London, and online via www.weareriddim.com, becoming the first legal reggae and dancehall music station in the capital.
April marks what would have been BANG Radio’s 5th birthday, yet with the saturation of urban music in the British market, the team behind the community station brand have been working on bringing Caribbean sister station Riddim Radio to the UK.
Jennifer Ogole confirms:
“We are proud to announce a change in what was BANG Radio’s licence. We have been granted permission by Ofcom to amend our remit and champion reggae and dancehall from our home in Harlesden, North West London, finally shining a light on and representing a worldwide culture which has been gradually disappearing from British radio and deserves to have its own media platform in the UK.”
